  • I have no idea how or when this happened, but all of a sudden, everyone loves Japanese music. Granted, we’ve all been into Damo Suzuki for decades, but those Haruomi Hosono reissues blew out of here immediately, and Midori Takada is topping year-end lists. As this material gets its first official release in the western world, PPU has taken a different strategy, finding a contemporary act that embodies the same eager experimentation and studious execution. Wool In The Pool is the debut 12” EP from Wool & the Pants. “Bottom Of Tokyo” launches with an up-front bass groove, while “Sekika” is fried vocals and snappy breakbeats. “Soredake” is more of a sample collage, while “Kudo” is a swirl of reverberation. This EP comes packaged in a custom picture sleeve and is pressed on black vinyl.
