  • Fresh sounds from waaay out. It's always refreshing to hear producers step beyond the usual genre constructs to create something that feels free and inspired. That's a something we've come to notice from Yoshinori Hayashi who's been making waves in the underground with just one previous release to his name (the coveted Going Good 12" from 2015). For his second vinyl outing, Hayashi steps out on the freshly minted JINN label and continues to impress with experimental left field tactics that blur the lines between downtempo, dub, avant-garde, funk, and house. The sound samples don't really do justice as the entire side is meant to be played as one long piece (with no gaps between tracks), but you can get a feel of Hayashi's power over the abstract on "Matter" and "Waterwheel," while things start to get funky on "Playing." Strangely satisfying in the way a 70's jazz fusion LP would be, and definitely rewarding and worthy of repeat listens. Sex Tags honcho and all around underground hero DJ Sotofett takes the B-side co-sign with the thumping "Dubcurve Fix-Mix" of "Waterwheel" that adds a steady kick for the dancefloor, while Osaruxo laces violin over the top to keep it decidedly left of center.
