Purity Ring's lullabies for the club are equally indebted to airy 90’s R&B, lush dream pop, and the powerful, bone-rattling immediacy of modern hip hop. Corin Roddick's trap rap influenced instrumentals set the ideal backdrop for Megan James' lyrical odes to dismembered and ravaged body parts. Despite the bands young age the production is at once futuristic and sophisticated; polished enough to fit among their peers on pop radio, but original enough to stand out from the pack. Shrines is filled with an impending sense of doom, as if the album was shrouded in darkness. And they consistently deliver that darkness with accuracy and precision.
