Roy Ayers records can be disappointing after hearing him hyped to all hell in the digging arena, records on the wall and all that, but "We Live in Brooklyn Baby" really lives up to the hype. It's got the unique Roy Ayers sound and stays on the level soul vibe all the way through, instead of breaking down into a disco flow or something else that makes you remove needles with quickness. Yes, this is the one Digable Planets used this for "Borough Check," and it sets the sound for that whole Blowout Comb LP. There’s three other cuts from the He’s Coming album; “Fire Weaver,” “Ain’t Got Time” (Dilla sample) and “He’s A Superstar Pt. 1” (touched by Shadow, Sprinkles and Dilla again); all solid vibraphone-laced jazz-funk, but ”We Live in Brooklyn" alone makes the original LP worth it.
- 180g black vinyl pressing (please note: actual pressing color and packaging may differ from mock-up photo)
- remastered from the original analog tapes
- gatefold sleeve
- original release year: 1972
- music label: Polydor 2026
