  • Aahh, The Meters, one of most trusted names in beat digging. Their LPs seem to have disappeared somewhere between here and the Mississippi; but occasionally a 45 pops up on the rainbow Josie label which makes me feel warm inside. Drop a needle on a Meters record and the first thing you'll notice is the kick. The Toussaint/Sehorn production brings the drums hard and to the top. The Meters also got that Nawlins Twang workin which makes their sound unique. This is the first LP which is full of songs made famous via funky 45. "Cissy Strut" starts the LP and has become the definition of the Meters' sound. "Here Comes the Meter Man" is a drum and cymbal heavy groover that sounds like Animal from the Muppets is on drums. Watch out for sneak attack break outro that was looped on Beats for Jugglers 2. Track 3 "Cardova" is my favorite on this album with that sinister bass and drum that Babu used on Comprehension (the part he skratches "Check it out"). Many more chunky beats and laid back grooves. I heard Linda Ronstadt hit all the Nevilles. Do they got Popeye's Fried Chicken in New Orleans? Can I get a Po-Boy?

    • black vinyl pressing
