Adrian Younge
Something About April II Vinyl LP
Linear Labs
↳ heavy analog soul from the modern maestro of the sound

Part deux from America's black genius. By now you should be famililar with multi-instrumentalist/producer who's brilliant analog production work has been likened to that of Ennio Morricone and even the Beatles. Similar to the first Something About April, the tracks here are composed of gritty cinematic elements and vintage soul with a hip-hop breakbeat aesthetic in mind. Add to that Loren Oden on crooning duties (sounding like Donnie Hathaway) and the result is stunning. Like we said before, Younge's music is at the same time soulful, heavy, dark, psychedelic, and just plain awesome. It's no wonder heavyweights like DJ Premier, Jay-Z, Common, and others have been sampling his work - but the truth is that all these tracks stand tall and the music speaks for itself. Highlights include "Sittin' By The Radio," "Winter Is Here," "La Ballade," "Magic Music," "Hear My Love," and more. Recommended.
