The band of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboard player Ben Tanner, and drummer Steve Johnson get down right funky at times. Their rhythms are heavy while maintaining a certain theatricality that is exemplified by Howard's guitar playing. This is slow burning music steeped in Southern rock and soul, something that should please fans and newcomers alike.
