Second studio album from Alabama's Alabama Shakes. It's a soul and blues filled affair made by Southern freaks that are not afraid to let their freak flag fly. The band of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboard player Ben Tanner, and drummer Steve Johnson get down right funky at times. Their rhythms are heavy while maintaining a certain theatricality that is exemplified by Howard's guitar playing. This is slow burning music steeped in Southern rock and soul, something that should please fans and newcomers alike. Deluxe edition features revised artwork, new photos, and seven bonus tracks pulled from unreleased studio material, b-sides and live songs cut at Capitol Records Studio A.
