Altin Gün is psyche-garage rock band that integrates influence from generations of Turkish folk songs with garage riffs and funk licks. On is the debut album from Altin Gün, continuing a rich tradition of opening doors between previously unconnected sonic worlds, following the footsteps of 70’s Turkish musicians such as Baris Manço, Selda Bağcan and Erkin Koray. These musicians took the traditional music and instrumentation of their culture, both formal and festive, and combined it with the heady rock sounds of the 70’s, leading to a sound both rich in history and imminently danceable. But their biggest influence is Neşet Ertaş, A Turkish folk musician of equivalent stature to Dylan, Jacques Brel, or George Gerschwin in his home country. His composition have effectively become standards in Turkey, reintroduced to endless generations over time. Altin Gün retain the themes and lyrics but reinterpret the compositions to a freakier, fuzzier place - shuffling time signatures and adding instrumentation while maintaining what made the songs beloved to begin with. The music is universal and effecting, even if you don’t speak a word of Turkish. “Kirsehirin Gulleri” is raw Saz (a 3-string lute) riffs and reverberating vocals over throbbing bass, “Kirsehrin Gulleri” is low-slung bass, chipper percussion and jangly riffs.
