Lab Overview

Amyl and the Sniffers share many qualities with their namesake - they kick in fast, give you a buzz, and are mildly disorienting for a brief time. 2017’s Big Attraction was a retro hard rock ripper from the Melbourne punks, Fever To Tell-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs chucked in a blender with Motörhead. Their ferocious live reputation attracted the attention of ATO (King Gizzard, Chicano Batman) who has released this self-titled debut. “Starfire 500” sets the stage with big distorted chords leading the way to the half-speed thrash of “Gacked on Anger”. “GFY” is an album highlight, raw bass riffage facing fierce competition from vocalist Amy Taylor’s coarse howl. “Got You” is big garage riffs and sing-song spoken vocals. The disc ends with a reworked version of bold breakup anthem “Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled)”, sporting an extended guitar intro and pummeling drums. 2021 repress on indie exclusive gold vinyl, includes printed inner and download code.
