HIGHLY WELCOMED REPRESS OF ROB BROWN & SEAN BOOTH’S CLASSIC THIRD ALBUM. A sticker on the shrink-wrap, faithfully reproduced from the original, reads: “complete with surface noise”; Autechre’s tongue in cheek confirmation that vinyl is the preferred listening format for the album (the original CD version boasted that it was “incomplete without surface noise”, LOL). Ironically, this brilliant remaster is one of the best-sounding reissues we’ve ever heard. As far-out and techy as Tri Repetae gets (peep “Stud”, “Rsdio”), Brown & Booth’s roots as b-boys shine through on head-nodding micro-rave (“Rotar”, “Eutow”) and introverted electro (“Clipper”, “C/Pach”). “Overand” resembles the gentler stylings of Richard D. James and future labelmates Boards Of Canada. An essential artifact from Warp’s golden era, featuring the subtle aesthetic flavors of The Designers Republic. Recommended.
