Debut studio album from Northampton's Bauhaus. In the Flat Field was originally recorded in 1980 after the band had wrapped up a 30 date tour. The resulting album feels like it is going to explode out of the speakers at any moment. An incessant beat pounds throughout the record creating the feeling of pent up energy as frontman Peter Murphy's vocals climb ever higher. They delve deep into the dark side of the human psyche, bringing to mind unsettling images of death and decay. Bauhaus would go on to be credited for creating the template for many of the stereotype of goth music. Nine tracks in all. Released by 4AD on black vinyl.
