  • In my opinion, this is the best starting point in Beach House’s discography (i.e. - the first vinyl record I gave to my sister). Sonically, it’s a big step up from their lower fidelity self-titled and Devotion records, with Victoria Legrand’s vocals mixed up front-and-center, showcasing her growth in lyricism. However, it’s not nearly as studio polished as Bloom or Depression Cherry; still capturing the raw minimalism of their earlier work. Off the bat, the album starts with fan favorites “Zebra” and “Silver Soul,” the latter of which was sampled in Kendrick Lamar’s “Money Trees.” The lead singles “Norway” and “Used to Be” also bless side A, although I will say that “Walk in the Park” is a better representation of the direction they were moving in at this time. Side B contains the excellent deep cut “10 Mile Stereo” as well as the beautiful album closer “Take Care,” which still consistently finds its way onto their setlists. 10 tracks altogether on black vinyl, recommended.
