Lab Overview

The boogie funk is alive and well on the West Coast. After dropping the heavily in demand "Love Is" 7" Brian Ellis is back with Reflection. The funkified multi-instrumentalist has definitely got what it takes to make your body move. The aforementioned "Love Is" featuring none other than Egyptian Lover starts the EP off on an ever so funky journey. At times Ellis channels Prince's guitar work and others the beefy basslines of Roger Troutman and Zapp. He employs a wealth of classic synths like the Oberheim Matrix-1000 and Roland SVC-350 Vocoder to stay on target. As soon as you put this record on your turntable you're guaranteed to be transported to an alternate universe of boogie and funk. Like his West Coast compatriot Dam-Funk, Ellis is carrying the torch for the funk and doing a mighty fine job at it.
