Lab Overview

Third full-length from Seattle's Chastity Belt, the band that consists of Julia Shapiro, Lydia Lund, Annie Truscott, and Gretchen Grimm. The indie rock quartet met at Whitmant College in Walla Walla, Washington, and I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone is the follow-up to 2015's Time to Go Home. Much of CB's earlier materials were about approaching gender norms, stereotypes pertaining to women, and the social constructs of femininity w/ humor and a "we could care less" attitude. For the latest effort, the group leaves "feelings in full view, unobscured by humor." The mood is backed by a fuzzy, exhilarating post-punk backdrop, and the record is "defined best, perhaps by" the line "I wanna be sincere." Check out "5am," "Caught in a Lie," "Different Now," "Used to Spend," "Stuck," and "This Time of Night."
