Heaven or Las Vegas is parallel to Depeche Mode's Violator. Both released in 1990, these albums represented a poppier, more commercial moment that's still embraced by the hardcore fans. Is there a better opener in their catalog than "CherryColoured Funk"? Or anything as transcendent as "Fotzepolitic" (probably, but it's up there)? The title track always gets me. This is the most lucid the lyrics get, but I still have no idea what Elizabeth Fraser is singing about. The entire album is exceptional from beginning to end, and what better format than vinyl to get the full range of Fraser's mxyplyzyk? Recommended.
