Z Records is no slouch when it comes to compilations of secret heaters you've never heard before. After giving us the much in demand Under The Influence series, the label delivers this deep collection of gospel inspired by boogie and disco from David Hill. The Nuphonic label co-founder and Soul Jazz consultant has put together a compilation that takes us back to how people were getting down in church in the 70s and 80s. From Ricky Womack & Christian Essence's cover of Sylvester's "I Need You" to the deeply soulful and funky version of "Love Is The Message" from Dan Greer, there's a wealth of secular dance music sounds running through the music. With this release, those of us that may not have been there get a taste of what was going down. Pretty everything here will be just as effective on the dancefloor as it was in church. Nothing is minimal on this record; you get the full effect of the bands and church sized choirs. Z Records has gone to great lengths to make sure masters sound as good as possible, as well. You will not be disappointed.
