Detroit's Dez Andres had a breakout year in 2012. His "New for U" was number one for pretty much every house head and he seemed to be DJing everywhere around the world at once. So please forgive us for not bringing Things U Like to your attention the first time around. The four track EP leans heavily towards his hip hop side with the majority of the cuts carrying on the torch for Dilla. There's the upbeat vibes of the title cut followed by the off kilter funk of "Merry Go Round." The closer, "Dubb Zone," takes a funky boogie sample and works it to the bone. Mixed in with all of that is the sample based house cut, "Seasons So Long." Built around a loop of The Spinners' "I'll Be Around," it winds its way straight to your pleasure zone. The sample sounds as if it's been put through the wringer, but it just seems to work perfectly. Recommended.
