  • Red, yellow, and blue make brown. Duval Timothy coming through with the lovely solo piano sounds of Brown Loop. The UK-based musician-slash-artist takes a conceptual approach here, taking inspiration from the tradition of hip-hop sampling and looping by playing with simple repeating phrases (or loops) and gradually building them out into beautiful compositions. In effect, Duval is basically "sampling" himself here with just an acoustic piano, resulting in a wonderful listening experience all the way through. The sound samples don't really do justice as you have to hear the whole tracks to hear the brilliant progressions, but trust - this is on some next ish. Highlights include "Badman," "Blue Borough," "Hairs," "Pleats," "Smoke Alarm," and "Passing." Don't be surprised if you start hearing this sampled on your favorite rapper's beats. Recommended.
