Athens Of The North boss Euan Fryer putting decades of deep funk and soul digging to good use on this debut release from AOTN house band East Coast Love Affair. The A side is a faithful cover of a certain lo-fi soul tune… not sure it’s been 100% cleared so not going to call it out, but the rolling groove, hypnotic synth lead, smooth vocals and killer breakdown have all been nailed to perfection with a modern touch by Fryer & co. Flip it over for the equally crucial “Taken For Granted,” a deep slice of polyrhythmic proto-house laid down Northern style. Sold out everywhere first time around, don’t miss it this time! Recommended.
