Lab Overview

The mythical East OF Underground LP gets a proper reissue from Now Again! This record is the stuff of a digger legend. As the story goes, this uber-obscure piece was produced for the US Army back in 1971 as a recruitment tool during the height of the Vietnam war. The heavy soul and funk music contained within the grooves was actually recorded by US army servicemen at the time (winners of a Battle of The Bands contest) in Frankfurt Germany... aaand that's basically all the info around on it! East Of Underground was actually reissued years ago on Wax Poetics (their first vinyl release), but this time Now-Again has taken the reigns and presents this fascinating and important album as a double LP with both East Of Underground and SOAP albums on heavy vinyl housed in a thick cardboard 'tip-on' gatefold sleeve. Includes heavy covers of James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Funkadelic, The Mamas & The Papas, Sly Stone and more. Recommended.
