Pedro Winter started Ed Banger Records in 2003, and to commemorate the label's 15 influential years in the game, a 70-piece orchestra is summoned. In an interview regarding Ed Banger 15 Ans, Winter states: "when I started the label, I wanted to propose something completely different." "Completely different" has always been at the core of the French imprint bridging disco, house, techno, and hip-hop, and the mentality continues 15 years later. And now, how do you celebrate a catalog full of LOUD electronic music in a "completely different" way? Symphonic reiterations, obviously. Thomas Roussel arranges, conducts, and breathes new life into materials from Justice, Mr. Oizo, Cassius, Breakbot, Feadz, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Uffie, Sebastian, and Para One. Strings, woodwinds, brass, and orchestral percussion deftly recreate sounds previously produced by electronic instruments + heavy distortion and compression, and what comes forth is a "completely different" way of enjoying the best Ed Banger has to offer (so far).
