Ennio Morricone’s score for Giuseppe Tornatore’s 1988 Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, which picked up an Academy Award for best foreign language film. While Morricone is best known for his spaghetti western soundtracks, Cinema Paradiso consists almost entirely of soft, romantic ballads, but proves he is peerless in his ability to conjure deep moods and create incredibly potent arrangements. Highlights include “Prima Gioventu,” “Infanzia e Maturita” and “Tema D’amore (Love Theme)”, composed in collaboration with Morricone’s son, Andrea Morricone. Original copies often go for over $100, and recent European pressings are almost impossible to find stateside. This Music On Vinyl pressing is limited to 1000 copies and pressed on 180g clear vinyl. An essential grip for Morricone fans.
