Lab Overview

The fact that Flying Lotus is the great nephew of Alice Coltrane always pops some of my remaining brain cells. Listening to You're Dead! in its entirety you can immediately sense the real cosmic lineage. This is definitely a jazz album, and I'm curious to see how it gets integrated into our current music world. Is our social cryptography feed ready for Jazz 3.0? As Snack says: "definitely a lot of fusion going on." But Flylo has always been consumer savvy... softening the mental strain of lazy brains with potent 2 minute tracks a la old thrash albums (seriously, the average track length is under 2 minutes). The longest track, that mexcellent Kendrick Lamar joint, is the longest track at 3:55. I can't wait to really appreciate this on a balanced mixture of my home setup and headphone travel. Will report back from Interstellar Low Ways.
