Kieran Hebdan dropped this moody midtempo sizzler digitally last spring and we’re just now getting it on wax. Stylistically, “Teenage Birdsong” and b-side cut “Dreamer” call up a sound not typically found on Four Tet dance 12”s - the woodblock snares, plucked strings, leafy synths and Playboi Carti-ish flute melody instead sound like they’d be buried on side C of a Four Tet album. This part of his sound has always been much more interesting to me anyway so its nice to see it get room to spread out on a twelve. There’s some nice remixes of “Birdsong” too - Avalon Emerson takes an even lighter but decidedly kitchen sink tack (see also: *Kate Bush type beat*)… Overmono go in a vintage Warp sort of direction, stripping away any acoustic elements and filling in every nook and cranny with gliding synths and IDM drums. Housed in full color die-cut jacket; these don’t usually stick around for long so be swift.
