Georgia Rose Hariet Barnes (known professionally as Georgia) is an English music producer, singer, songwriter, and drummer. Her father is Neil Barnes (cofounder of Leftfield), which exposed her to clubbing culture from a young age - “It helped my family, it gave us a roof over our head.” She began her musical career as a drummer for Kwes (Warp Records) and political poet Kate Tempest, showing her varied tastes ahead of her eponymous debut LP in 2005. Georgia drew comparisons to MIA and Missy Elliot, a bombastic and assured collection of club-adjacent tunes. Seeking Thrills is an artfully constructed burst of adrenaline, bubbly hooks and clever electropop flourish. She wrote this record at her home studio after a self-taught course in Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Kate Bush - a winning gamble, as nearly half of the songs on the album have been successful singles on BBC Radio 1. “About Work the Dancefloor” reminds immediately of contemporary underground pop music such as Carly Rae Jepsen and Santigold, retro electronics and straight-ahead vocals leading to an earworm of a hook. “Never Let You Go” is clicky drums and a Strokes-esque rumble of a bassline, effected vocals reverberating among layers of quirky keys. “Mellow” is all low-end rumble and features deadpan vocals from Shygirl, “Ultimate Sailor” is cosmic twinkle and moody, flanged synths. This record arrives in deluxe packaging including a screen printed transparent outer sleeve, printed inner, and a substantial 12x12 booklet with photos and lyrics. The LP itself pressed on bright red vinyl.
