It seems that Goitia Deitz have seen fit to bless us with one release a year. The Brooklyn based duo returns to Cut Mistake Music with MODE, an EP that sees some development of their kraut inspired cosmic sound. They seem to have grown more comfortable exploring the fringes of the music this time around. House, techno, no wave and ambient textures are all touched upon as the EP progresses. Their characteristic motorik pulse sets things off on "New Horizons," but it's almost as if the duo uses that song as a goodbye to all they've done before. Bass drives "Sunday Shimmer" steadily forward, as we are treated to elements that sound far more futuristic than anything we've heard before. These two contrasting tracks are followed by what might be the highlight of the EP. "Falling Again" takes on house in a way that Goitia Deitz has not really breached before. It's straightforward, wasting no time in getting to the punch. Bass and chord stabs breath life into the dancefloor as the track progresses, percussion providing just the right effect for extended play. The pace is slowed down after that with the two closing tracks. They may be simple in the makeup, but that belies their utter allure. Recommended.
