Lab Overview

Gonjasufi drops another genre-bending, impossible-to-classify masterpiece that is The Caliph's Tea Party. The album reinterprets A Suffi And A Killer with remix work from established and up-and-coming musicians - Mark Pritchard aka Harmonic 313("Ancestors"), Schlomo ("Change"), Brooklyn-based band Bear In Heaven("Love Of Reign"), and more - and takes listeners through a vastly different sonic journey; however, don't worry, because much of the weirdness that made the original so great remains intact. Dam Mantle turns "Ageing" into a dark dubstep cut with wicked, sped-up vocal samples that contrast Sufi's psyched-out vocals. Bibio's remix of "Candylane" is a beautifully arranged number full of effects-enhanced guitar/keys sounds, while Hezus' take on "My Only Friend" comes out sounding psych rock straight from the 60s. Recommended.
