  • Sophomore studio album from Modesto's Grandaddy. The Sophtware Slump was written and recorded by frontman Jason Lytle, and feels like the heavy comedown of January 2, 2000 when we all realized things were going to be the same as they ever were. It's a sad album, one that seems to be coming to grips with the fact that technology is not going to make everything better. The production is rich and multi-layered, but never becomes bigger than the sum of its parts. Lytle's knack for simple melodies provides for hooky tracks that almost immediately draw you in. And his lyrics paint a vision of a dystopian future where nature has been taken over by the dregs of technology and consumerism. Can't we just escape it all?
