Lab Overview

In 1994 there was a major tectonic shift in punk rock... and it was called DOOKIE. If you’re reading this page without previous knowledge of this album then you probably shouldn’t be browsing the Internet without adult supervision. This album sent shockwaves through the music world and changed the face of punk music forever. Never before had punk infiltrated so far into the mainstream consciousness. Back in '94 Green Day were just 3 crusty friends in Northern California trying to churn out their own brand of brash and youthful music. “Basket Case” is damn near perfect song that shows the brand of catchy, melodic and accessible punk that turned Green Day into superstars. “When I Come Around” is another timeless hit that was also used by my sister and I to soundtrack what is surely the finest homemade music video of all time. Other selections like “Longview”, “She” and “Having A Blast” help round out this classic album. If there were a Criterion Collection for albums this one would easily make the cut. Blink 182, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World – every punk-orientated band that found mainstream success in the late 90’s and early 00’s can link their success back to Green Day and specifically the Dookie bomb that blew us all out of the water.
