The tracks that make up Greg Belson's latest compilation have one thing in common: God. Forward-thinking gospel artists in the '70s and early '80s adopted the pulsating 4/4 rhythms to their upward looking music, and what came forth were uplifting sounds w/ a powerful message that stimulated the mind, body, and soul of church and club-going folk alike (and many fell in both camps). The 15 numbers presented on Divine Disco - American Gospel Disco 1974 To 1984 are sure-shot heaters, and they are explosive reminders that good music transcends anything and everything. According to Belson, the compilation shines light on lesser knowns names (Gospel Ambassadors, Inspirational Souls) as well as artists that have crossed over to have "hit" club records (Betty Griffin). Also, numbers by the likes of Delores Fuller and Herman Harris offer more modern soul / boogie moments. Check out: "Faith Is The Key," "Free Spirit," "Thank You Jesus," "No Greater Love," "Trouble Don't Last Always (Rahaan Edit)," "Jesus Is Going Away (But He's Coming Back Again)," and "One More Chance Lord."
