We've all at least heard of Hamilton by this point. Lin-Manuel Miranda's tribute to one of the most loquacious of the nation's founding fathers has turned out to be hugely influential. It's been lauded by everyone from Busta Rhymes to Barack Obama. The Hamilton Mixtape underscores that influence with contributions from contemporary pop and hip hop stars. The musical's tunes are reinterpreted by artists like Kelly Clarkson, Nas, Jimmy Fallon, Usher, John Legend, and Common. Miranda drew on hip hop when writing and composing much of the music of Hamilton, so it's only fitting for some of hip hop's greatest to take on the material. Perhaps the greatest moment is when Ahsanti and Ja Rule take on the ballad "Helpless." Miranda apparently modeled that song after the duo's early aughts hits and they turn in an irresistible take. Twenty-three tracks in all. Released by Atlantic on double vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves.
