  • Timeless deep organ techno on R&S back in print! "Plastic Dreams" was an instant classic when it was released back in 1993 and helped to put Dutch producer Jaydee (not Dilla) on the techno map. It's been awhile since we've been able to get this, but check out what Sabo had to say when we first started stocking the 12" 20+ years ago:

Some tracks are classics and just shouldn't be redone. "Plastic Dreams" was originally released on Belgium's R&S Records in '93, and it is the all-time rave classic. It's been played by every club DJ out there at some point, and remixed over and over- but nothing tops the original. Just to prove the power, I heard some dork play a trance version of this at Crobar a few months ago, and despite how awful the remix was, people recognized the original and still lost it. And I saw James Murphy play the bootleg version with Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" over top a while ago- again, terrible remix, but people loved it. Why? Cause this is the funkiest techno song ever made. It has a simple and hard 4/4 beat, an incredible bass line, and an organ solo that just elevates. Even DJ Spinna dropped "Plastic Dreams" at PS1 this summer, and people went predictably nuts. But Spinna knows, cause he played the original version; didn't try and mix it with the Strokes or something weak like that. There's just no need - everyone knows the og, and it still sounds great.

    • single-sided black 12" vinyl pressing
    • original release year: 1993
    • music label: R&S 2025
