On Basement Donuts, the Auckland-based musician reinterprets Dilla's full 31 track masterpiece in a live modern funk style... and trust, it sounds incredible. If Donuts was made in Dam-Funk's studio, it might sound something like this. No sampling of the source or sourced material - the entire thing is played live on bass, drums, Rhodes & synths! No doubt an impressive feat by Charles and his crew by all means - they even re-sing the samples (vocals by Anji Toy, Adi Dick, Ruby Walsh and Georgia Anne Muldrow)! Listen to all your favorites in a new and funky light. Comes pressed up on limited "chocolate donut w/ pink frosting" colored vinyl (of course). Very Recommended.
