Those of you who loved the Tirzah LP and are foaming at the mouth for more, this is the closest you’re gonna get for at least a little while. Limited edition 2nd pressing of this 2016 outing from Mica Levi (her 2nd for DDS following 2014’s Feeling Romantic Feeling Tropical Feeling Ill), a hodgepodge of new and old material selected by Mica and the Demdike guys. Tirzah’s voice appears unfettered for only brief passages, otherwise mangled and twisted into kaleidoscopic bursts of junkyard 2-step and acid-soaked grime. Mica sets the vibe with “Intro” before quickly getting out the zombie gunfingers and rotted Gliding Squares™ for “Go” and pretty much the duration of side A. “More Red” feat. Brother May sounds like vintage Dizzee on mushrooms. I’m listening to all this and thinking about how Micachu almost won an Oscar for a Jackie Kennedy biopic soundtrack, and laughing my ass off. Demdike Stare turn in a slightly tamer edit of “Dare You” to close the session. Limited to 500 copies, recommended.
