  • Do You Like My Tight Sweater is the debut album from the Sheffield, UK electronic duo of Mark Brydon (who produced records by the likes of Cabaret Voltaire and The Funky Worm) and Róisín Murphy. This was the first time the general public heard from Murphy, who has become a cult-favorite anti-pop star in the UK and abroad. The title of the album was inspired by singer Murphy's chat-up line to Brydon at a party in 1994: "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body!" Thus began a rather successful romantic and professional relationship. The record is ostensibly the pop genre but is quite fluid and esoteric, it's ultimately a set of rugged glitchy beats with wild, theatrical vocals. There’s trip-hop atmospherics, crunchy analog synth riffs, dance-punk thrash, and electro-pop clarity across this album’s seventeen tracks. “Fun For Me” features crashing piano chords and basslines, Murphy’s spoken vocals twisting around fierce breakbeats. “Day For Night” begins with calm synth chords and heavenly layered vocal with percussion that sounds like it was taken from an old school foley recording session. “Party Weirdo” has a truly mysterious introduction, and, well, it stays pretty weird. This record is experimental but not pretentious and left-field without being impenetrable - it's just good, weird, fun dance music. Highly recommended.
