Motion City Soundtrack was founded in 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by vocalist/guitarist Justin Pierre and lead guitarist Joshua Cain. The group’s music is a blend of alternative rock, emo, pop punk, and features more prominent synthesizer use than typical groups of these genres. After three successful records on Epitaph, My Dinosaur Life was their major label debut and their highest charting record. Mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth) and produced by Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus, who was stoked to work with the group again after 2005’s Commit This To Memory - “There’s an edge on this record that I'm really excited about getting into.” Overall, the record has a heavier, post-hardcore sound inspired by Fugazi, Archers of Loaf, and Dinosaur Jr. “Her Words Destroyed My Planet” is morose, modulated vocals with a soaring chorus, “History Lesson” is jangly acoustic guitar blown away by power chords. “@!#?@!” is a keyboard-heavy power-pop inspired by Q-Bert (The game), the intro to “The Weakends” has the lowest BPM here, mournful guitar licks making way for falsetto tinged vocals and fierce breakdowns. This deluxe reissue arrives in a gatefold sleeve with spot-gloss accents and a fold-out poster. The LP is pressed on clear colored vinyl with a green smoke effect. First pressing since 2010, snag it while you can.
