Are you ready for the funk? Well the dudes at BBE have FINALLY reissued another explosive and super sought-after release from their back catalog, this one featuring the personal selections of one Mr. Thing. On this 2008 comp, the veteran UK hip hop producer + turntablist (Scratch Perverts!) selects 22 tracks of funk and soul rarities, old and new, with high quality sound on triple LP. He's really showing off his deep crates here with jams like Bergundy's "Tramp Reszlet," Chain Reaction's "Hogtied," David Batiste and The Gladiators' "Funky Soul Pt. 1" and the Society Of Seven's "Superstar." I'm really loving the variety, obscure but still banging. But for those with an appetite for something more familiar there's some awesome covers here well. You might have heard the Mohawk's "Champ," but you gotta check the funkdified "Tramp" from Brother Lloyd's All Stars. How about Blackbuster's cover of the famous Banbarra (or A Certain Ratio) cut, "Shack Up," the sick breaks on Discoettes' "Yes We Can Can," or the gangsta funk of Lloyd Charmer's "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More." All are worth spinning out, and that's not even half the comp! Gotta give it up to Mr. Thing for keeping the funk alive in a serious way. The whole funk, and nothing but the funk right here. Recommended.
