A sly nod to the Shaolin Soul compilation series, Shanghai'd Soul - Episode 12 (the follow up to Episode 4) contains a diverse selections of Numero Group tracks sampled by the likes of Kanye West, The Avalanches, Danny Brown, J. Cole, The Game, Anderson .Paak and more. However, this compilation is way more than just break-oriented funk. You get powerful deep soul numbers that exude more depth and life than their short passages in a sampler memory bank. Many of these are hard to find rarities that only saw life in the late 60s and early 70s on limited 7" pressings. Particularity entrancing is the cinematic and soulful "Theme From The Godfather" played by The Professionals, the gospel funk of T.L. Barrett & The Youth For Christ Choir's "Nobody Knows," Greenflow's laidback "I Got'Cha" and The Ponderosa Twins' "Bound" which is the comp's flagship track. Twelve tracks in all.
