  • Pedro The Lion's 3rd full length, originally released in 2002. David Bazan handles the songwriting, and we're once again reminded of the Seattle artist's SERIOUS pen game, as he builds this concept album around a corporate paper pusher trapped in a loveless marriage. Yes, some dark stuff on here: bleak pursuit of money, infidelity, murder (his wife ends up killing said dude at the end), and etc. Depressing album to listen to for sure, but pay attention to how delicately Bazan with such subjects. Crunchy guitar work leads the musical charge, and fitting keyboard, bass, and drums set a somber but intense mood. check out "Indian Summer," "Second Best," "Rejoice," "Penetration," "Rapture," and "Options.
