Eleventh studio album from multifaceted producer Prefuse 73. Sacrifices follows 2015's Rivington Não Rio with seventeen beat oriented tracks that take a slightly more minimal approach. Prefuse 73 (aka Guillermo Scott Herren) has always taken a deconstructionist approach to instrumental hip hop. With Sacrifices he peels back even more layers to reveal music that is informed by subtlety and restraint. Synth drones and ambient passages are treated to trademark Prefuse chops and flips. A hazy, lo-fi quality softens the edges of the glitches and errant percussion that are inherent to the Prefuse sound. This may not be Herren at his most aggressive or inventive, but Sacrifices is sure to please fans of the accomplished and prolific beatsmith. Seventeen tracks in all.
