Lab Overview

We haven’t heard from Ray Barbee since 2009’s full-length collab with The Mattson 2, and now nearly 9 years later he’s back with a psychedelic long player supplanting his guitar-led sound for a new paramour: analog synthesizers. Tiara for Computer is an eclectic blend of downtempo beats (c/o Tortoise drummer John Herndon), jangly guitars, synth bass fuzz and Space Echo that sounds like it came from Conny Plank’s Studio in Cologne, Lee Perry’s Black Ark and electroclash-era New York all at once. Fully instrumental; the arrangements are extremely rich, often with an enveloping MS-20 lead bubbling at the top. It sounds exactly like the type of shit I heard in skate videos in 1996, altering the course of my music consumption forever. Featuring appearances by Tommy Guerrero and Josh Lippi, limited edition pink vinyl with printed insert and download code.
