This excellent cover of "The Sweetest Taboo" (originally by quiet storm R&B group Sade) was “rediscovered” on a limited cassette mixtape by Beautiful Swimmers (on The Trilogy Tapes), causing much chin scratching and spawning many comments section debates before the source was discovered. In the latter half of the 80’s, as Electronic music spread across the globe, Rebeles was an ardent champion of the Soca / Calypso sound. Also known as D’ Rebel’s Band and led by St Vincentian band-leader and trombonist Denniston Young, the group were the 1980s house band for one of the largest Caribbean labels, Strakers Records (based in Brooklyn). This is an officially licensed reissue courtesy of the globally-oriented Soundways Records, and arrives just in time for those last few hands-in-the-air summer dance parties. Includes a remixed "Club Version" on the flip. This 12” teases a big compilation of Soca crossover tracks due later this year, we can hardly wait. This single is pressed on heavyweight vinyl and is packaged in a die-cut picture sleeve. Highly recommended.
