Tokyo’s premier Jamaican music outpost and purveyors of reggae & dancehall reissues come through with 7 rare and unreleased proto-ska cuts from Jamaican / Cuban trombonist Rico Rodriguez. The tracks contained within come from sessions during Rico’s last years living in Jamaica before he departed for London, where he would spend the majority of his career and life. Tracks like “I’ve Got A Secret” show a heavy influence from stateside soul and r&b cut with an upbeat homegrown flavor that would explode into full-blown ska just a year or two later. Rico went on to record for Trojan, Randy's, Island Records, and later, ska revivalists Two-Tone Records. 10-inch vinyl pressing includes printed insert with extended liner notes.
