Lab Overview

The sound of Rio De Janeiro nightlife, circa 1982. Both Robson Jorge and Lincoln Olivetti were accomplished producers from the mid-70s through the release of this, their sole full-length, and beyond. Marrying the urgency of Tropicalia / MPB with virtuosic jazz-fusion guitar, sophisticated synth leads and floor-friendly boogie riddims, the duo burn through 12 hot slices of Brasilian fever without missing a beat. A no-brainer for fans of P.P.U., Marcos Valle, Joan Bibiloni, Morris Day, Weather Report (hell, we’ll even toss Chromeo in here) and the like. Originals will cost you an arm and a leg; thankfully, reissue cherubs Mr. Bongo come through with this immaculate pressing right on time (heads will also want to grip their recent pressing of Gal Costa’s Índia). Tracks to scope: “Jorgeia Corisco,” “Squash,” “Eva,” “Ginga.” Replica black vinyl pressing with full-color printed insert containing liner notes.
