New York-based singer-songwriter Sam Evian’s debut album, Premium, features a collection of songs informed equally by the likes of Beach Boys, Cass McCombs, and Shuggie Otis. Open and honest lyrics gently sit on top of spacious, fun backdrop of guitar chords, aching pedal steel, Wurlitzers, and light synths creating a sound he describes as “an analogue dream in a digital world.” Further, Evian demonstrates emotional depth while managing to keep the mood casual and relaxed, which makes listening to the album a very refreshing experience. Check out “I Need a Man,” “Dark Love,” “Cactus,” and “Carolina,” “Big Car,” and “Tear.”
