Lab Overview

Limited edition mono version! Sharon Jones, with the help of the Dap-Kings, has been keeping the fire burning for late 60s soul and R&B for the last decade. With each release they seem to hone their craft and get tighter and tighter. Give The People What They Want is somewhat of a triumph for Jones, along with the band. The singer was struck with pancreatic cancer during the lead up to the album, which she thankfully has overcome. And the music has only gotten better. The backing of the Dap-Kings has stayed true to the classic Southern soul they are so well versed in. They do throw in the occasional nod to Motown and Philly soul. At the same time Jones has firmly placed her self in the cannon with front-women like Lyn Collins and Marva Whitney. Throughout the album they trade off between pounding, high-octane numbers and slower, sweeter break-up/make-up ballads. This keeps the pace moving, helping along the notion that Sharon Jones is damn near unstoppable.
