Finally!!! We’ve waited so so long for this, the first vinyl reissue of Slowdive’s 5 EP, originally released in 1993. At just 17 minutes runtime, it’s one of their shortest records, but easily the most evocative, ethereal and elusive - and for this crew, that’s saying a lot. Chronologically the band were fresh off the crystallized shoegaze swirl of Souvlaki, but spiritually they were already deep in the Pygmalion forest. I read somewhere that Neil Halstead was flatmates with Mark Clifford of Seefeel around this time, and it’s apparent immediately when you drop the needle on “In Mind” that Neil wasn’t too shy to dip into whatever was in Mark’s stash at the time. But while those spacey electronica textures were the son du jour for anyone who kept up with Warp Records around this time, Slowdive had something no other act could compete with: Rachel Goswell’s voice. 3 bonus tracks from the CD version of Souvlaki round out the EP; in other words, this is an essential release for fans of the band. Gorgeous-sounding 2021 heavyweight pressing, individually numbered edition of 4000 copies. Recommended!
