"NO remixes... unless it's Autechre." - Sophie
That's right, there's a reason there are so few official remixes of Sophie's work on record: she famously eschewed having her own work remixed, unless it was by her heroes, Autechre (she later loosened these restrictions and allowed a full-length comp of remixes for the Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides album). So in 2015, the Numbers. label took a shot in the dark by submitting the stems for Sophie's "Bipp" to Sean Booth and Rob Brown. Five years later, they send back this version, a slow-rolling percussive groover with the original vocal chewed up and spit out into 80s Miami freestyle territory, topped off with a shit-your-pants growling bassline. Delightfully straightforward business hearkening back to their future electro roots a la Lego Feet / Incunabula. On the flip is unreleased hypertensive FM synth workout "Unisil," it's vintage Product-era Sophie through and through. The world may be in the toilet, but let your heart be warmed by the fact that Sophie got to hear this before she passed. Packaged in a silkscreened sleeve. Recommended!
