Hey, I’m Just Like You is a uniquely nostalgic return to form from Vancouver pop duo Tegan and Sara. While working on their memoir (2019's High School), the Quin sisters stumbled across dozens of cassettes of demo songs, originally recorded when they were between the ages of 15 and 17. But this LP is no mere collection of unearthed juvenilia - the duo began rewriting parts of the lyrics but kept the “essence” of each song, stating "This is the record we never could have made as teenagers, full of songs we never could have written as adults." Produced by Alex Hope (Carly Rae Jepsen, Troye Sivan), this record dials down the glossy synthesizer work of their more recent albums, sounding closer overall to their scrappier indie rock roots. “I’ll Be Back Someday” splits the difference between pop-punk and power-pop, existing in the space between Warped Tour three-chord punk and the bright, chromatic harmonies of the New Pornographers. “Don’t Believe The Things They Tell You” is minimalist and maximalist at once - strums and soft keyboards give way to an epic, cathartic chorus. “Please Help Me” is a relatively straightforward acoustic track, charming harmonies and soft piano accompaniment. This LP is pressed on indie exclusive yellow colored vinyl, and includes a printed inner sleeve.
